About Us

Launched in 2021, an initiative of Council of the Great Lakes Region, Circular Great Lakes will work with partners including the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (Alliance) to develop a circular economy strategy for plastics in the region, setting the stage for targeted actions and partnerships over the next five years. Priorities of the initiative include driving systemic changes necessary to close the loop for plastics in the region, shifting away from a linear, take-make-dispose economy and materials management mindset.

Mark is a seasoned professional with 13 years of experience in policy-making, strategic business planning, corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, public advocacy, and issues management.

He brings a wealth of experience in international affairs, with a focus on advancing the United States-Canada relationship in the areas of trade, security, natural resource development and environmental protection. He also brings extensive experience providing advice to key decision-makers and influencers, including the Prime Minister of Canada, provincial premiers and ministers, parliamentarians, and C-level executives from the private and not-for-profit sectors.

Kimberly Haas is currently the Vice President of Imperial Oil Chemicals and Sarnia Chemical Plant Manager. With over 15 years of experience with Exxon Mobil in the petrochemical industry, she is looking forward to supporting the Circular Great Lakes. She has spent the past 10 years in various manufacturing roles within the Chemicals Company championing numerous continuous improvement items within the manufacturing processes. Currently, Kimberly is actively involved in sponsoring energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives within Imperial Chemicals.

Clint Smith is able to fulfill his passion for helping others and the environment through leading Pregis sustainability strategy and implementation. Pregis is a customer-driven solutions provider of innovative protective packaging materials, equipment systems and surface protection whose mission is to Protect, Preserve and Inspyre. As a material-neutral company, the company works with its customers to find the right solution to solve their business challenges, develop them in an environmentally respectful manner, educate and help others through the lifecycle.

Joining Charter Next Generation in 2015, Scott supported the CNG converter customer base with new film developments and improvements. Today, he focuses on spearheading all the company’s sustainability initiatives, which include the technical and customer support of the Charter Next Generation GreenArrow™ family of films, the Zero Waste-to-Landfill objective for all nine of the CNG manufacturing facilities, as well as the corporate social responsibility and climate-related aspects.
